How Do I Change The Upper & Lower Drivers On My LG Plasma Tv 42 inch Model # RU-42PX11?
My plasma tv plays for about 45 minutes then starts blinking to a black screen then back to the picture. The picture is fine no lines, and very clear. A tv repair guy said I needed to replace the drivers upper & lower ($230 parts). The LG sevice center said also told me to replace the main Y driver ($280 part), but for right now I only have enough for the upper & lower driver: $250.00.
Well it MAY BE those boards…BUT….
The blinking part makes me think to RESEAT THE RIBBON cables FIRST….
I suspect the TV Tech did that, right?
IF HE SAYS replace the driver boards, then believe him MORE than LG…LG wasn't in your home…TV TECH was….
Now, if you want to replace them yourself, be VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL about seating the Ribbon cables PROPERLY into the sockets…if you don't you can DAMAGE THE SOCKETS !! They'll pop into a couple pieces if not seated correctly….and then you'll have to find the socket parts too….(in that Big Fluffy Carpet, or on that solid floor that makes the parts fly about 50 miles away from the service area !)
Yeah, it isn't as easy as you think it is…..those little tiny ribbon locks are a PAIN to find if they pop off….
TV Tech eyes are TRAINED to lock in on flying objects and follow them to the LZ…..then they initiate a sweep pattern over the LZ to sense the object and get it off the floor.
Then they Delicately Reinstall the parts, like a jeweler does…..
and try the ribbon install again….
Oh, even a TV tech can THINK he has it properly SEATED…but just 1/10 of a mm off, and KA-SPROING !!!
Locking on target! Locking on target! No Target lock!
I repeat….No Target lock!
Initiating WIDE AREA search…..Looking visually for it in the OVERGROWN CARPET JUNGLE….
Feeling for it in the OVERGROWN CARPET JUNGLE…
I need AGENT ORANGE here folks….
And wait until it hits solid flooring….and ricochets!
I actually would rather have YOU do it……than me.
