Philips 50-inch Plasma HDTV Suddenly Died

Less than 3 years old, my Philips 50-inch plasma TV died suddenly. Audio is fine, but the display has large black blobs on both sides and garbage in the middle, regardless of the input selected. I can’t even view the Menu. Have you seen anything like this? (model 50PF9630A/37) One repairman said the entire display would have to be replaced, i.e. It’s not fixable.

    Philips plasma or …
Philips plasma or lcd are generally a kit of parts built by Philips. They use Samsung plasma display panels, occasionally LG or Samsung power supplies, and other brand panels, i.e. DTR220 digital box is made by Pace with a Philips badge, and is shit. The only thing Philips are good at is keeping the repair trade in work. DO NOT PURCHASE PHILIPS OF ANY DESCRIPTION. If you want a reliable plasma or lcd, ANYTHING is better than Philips, yes even LG!

IR sensors for the remote controls are mostly very common types… for very little money you can replace it (if offcourse, you have the technical know-how for something like that)

I will say it again. Plasma’s Break down and require to be serviced more and the gas’s filled screen breaks up and requires a repair. Stick to LCD TV’s Better in the long run and prjection Tv’s that work a buld are mush better. I am using a 2002 Sony HDTV 1080i Projection Firing Guns and picture Tubs in my set. Sold TV i have. The new set are not as good.

I’m joining your club, my set has the same symptoms. After couple minutes of works like this the TV turns off to stand by mode and red led flash for 7 times, then pause and flash back again. In manual it says red led-stand by mode is for excessive heat and TV set turns off to stand by mode for self-protection.

I think, pretty sure with this, they do not know exact the problem of the set.
My TV set is old 2 yrs. Next TV will be LCD, not plasma, and definitely Philips brand name WILL NOT be neither as option for 1/2 price.
I will miss ambilight feature that set has.
