Personally I don’t think you can get a "good" 50" Plasma for that price, although an older model Panasonic may be your best bet.

Yes there is one for around that price. the local TV store near me had two Panasonics…
1 – 50" around $1299 but only 720p
2- 50" around $1899 and can do 1080p
Unless you plan to do Blu-Ray then 720p is great for standard DVD or xbox 360 & PS3
