my 42 inch plasma unit from Hitachi(42 PD 7800TA) suddenly stopped working after a year of purchase. I wall mounted it and one day when we were watching it suddenly the screen went blank.
Now when I turn it on ,there is nbo picture despite the indicator light is green.
Plz can anybody help me

These units are board level repair and they have a self-diagnostic function. The information listed below came from the 42PD5000 manual, but I suspect it is very similar to your unit. To active this function you first turn it off (master power on in stand-by) then on the plasma you push and hold the (sub) power button and the down arrow at the same time and hold them for 5 seconds after it comes on. this will activate a series of red LED flashing a code. The code will blink 1/2 second on, 1/2 second off till the total count is done then it will stop for 2 seconds and repeat. Any other function button will stop the diagostics. One blink maybe the Logic board, two blinks the X-Sus board, three blinks maybe the Y-Sus or the Scan driver module (SDM), four blinks maybe the X-Sus, Y-Sus, SDM or the Power Supply (PSU), five blinks maybe the ABUS, the Address driver module (ADM), or the PSU, six blinks maybe cause by the ADM temperature, and eight blinks maybe "all the above-mentioned boards. I have seen a lot of the Y-sus board and the PSUs. This should at least give you an idea of what to expect. Note: as you may notice these codes are very vague and and seam to overlap a lot. That's why repairing these units sometimes is very difficult. And difficult usually means more money. Good luck, and don't take it to the Mom&Pop repair facility, take it to a Hitachi authorized repair shop in your area.

I have 42 in. Hitachi plasma (P42T501A) out of warranty. None of the component input ports, front or rear are working. I get picture and sound when connected directly to cable via cable/air connection. I have used component cables from DVD and cable box and have tried HDMI connection w/o results. Cable box and DVD function on another TV.

I have a Hitachi plasma TV. Everyonence in a will a black vertical line appears on the left hand side of the screen. The line is about 1″ wide, the line stays on for awhile than disappears but allways returns.

    Hello,

I have a 42 inch HD Plasma. The mute button continues to trigger. I have taken out the batteries for the remote to isolate it, but the problem continues. I live in a ground floor apartment and there may be other frequencies interfering , however, it does seem unusual it is just the mute button.

The problem does go away , yet comes back frequently.

Any ideas ? Has this been a problem with this model before ?

    I appreciate your assistane.

    Many thanks.

    Glen

Well, you got what you paid for. For one, PLASMAS are BAD! You fell for the smoother picture quality and other bogus lies from the shark that sold it to you. The truth is that LCD’s are as good and better than the Plasma’s. Why were Plasma’s more expensive yet over marketed, then LCD’s make a better series and now are leading the prices currently. Why Plasma? What are you doing buying cheap rubbish anyway?!… Im an Industrial Designer (consumer products) and the secret is that the products are designed to die out. We all remember our old tv, yes the ones that lasted over 10yrs with out any issues, well how many do that these days? Seriously, ALWAYS do a background check before buying a product, all I see is that Hitachi have this common problem, black screen, blinking light, etc. Plasmas can be fixed but it will cost you more than just buying a new television, they do this to make consumers keep up to date with technology. The products are controlling the consumers, apple for example as the companies make money from YOU. So, buy a LCD, which can be fixed or replaced with fewer issues AND buy a trusted company with at least 3-5yrs warranty because then you wont feel as bad buying a new tv if you cant repair your broken one, if an issue does arise. AND, once again, BUY A LCD!!!

    - Research a product
    - Buy with extended warranty (its worth the risk)
    - Dont buy cheap, theres a reason why the products need to be moved out of the floor, the 12month warranty is just a calling card for “see you in 12 months”.

    Cheers.

Sorry that this has happened to you, but I hear it all the time so hence the post.

One good suggestion from another post for the same issue of the screen going black and the green light flashing, is to:

    - Disconnect unit from wall. Let it rest, 30min for Plasmas as they are hot enough to roast a leg of ham!

    - Connect to another wall inlet.

    - If successful, the unit might work, again.

Even better, connect the TV and other products to a surge arrester unit first and then into the wall for added safety to you and your products.

What this will do, if anything. You will be able to see if the TV is the fault or your wall connection. Sometimes the TV doesnt receive the power it needs to run, or too much (hence the surge arrester) and blows. With any luck, your broken tv will magically work again, but being a Plasma it might find some other way to ruin your entertainment experience.

On the flip side, one benefit that Plasma’s have is that you dont need a separate heater for those cold nights from all the over heating it does. Look at the electricity a Plasma needs to run, calculate that with your monthly bill!…

    Again,

think about it, research it and buy with extended warranty from a trusted company!

    Cheers.

I also have a 55in Plasma Hitachi that went black. Sound is okay, but tv only works for 1 minute after letting it cool down with the master power off. This is obviously very common and i would appreciate it if anyone would enlighten me to what (blew up) Thank you!!!!

we have a sky spd3205 plasma tv which is made by hitachi, today the screen went blank and will not come back on, no lights showing on tv. Any one have ideas what the problem could be, I’ve tried the fuse, differnet socket etc.

    Thanks

Try taking off the rear panel housing the power supply board and look at the capacitors. If the tops are warped they are probably bad. I just went to radio shack and bought new ones with higher resistance and replaced them. The problem has not reoccured
