I have a 42 inch LG plasma TV. What is the optimal viewing distance ?

There are several factors that will influence the optimal viewing distance for a display including:

     • The visual acuity of the viewer/observer;
     • The size and characteristics of the display, including the performance of internal image and video processing as well as the adjustments of the display's settings;
     • The ambient lighting conditions of the viewing environment;
     • The quality of the HD content one chooses to view, which is influenced greatly by the video codec and compression algorithm, bitrate and other options used to encode (and transmit) the video content.

Nevertheless, the following are the approximate optimal viewing distances for various 42-inch displays:

     For a 1920×1080p HD display: 64 inches

     For a 1365×768p HD display: 91 inches

     For a 1280×720p HD display: 98 inches

     For a 854×480p ED display: 147 inches
