Is there any reason why I shouldnt buy the Toshiba 42HP86 Plasma TV?
December 3, 2008 – 2:53 pmI have been looking at this TV for awhile. I am compelled to purchase the Toshiba 42HP86 because it is on sale for $1299.99. But I have also been looking at the Sony Grand Wega 46" LCD Projection for $1248.99. I am just looking for a cheap TV for my XBOX 360 and DVDs. I dont really care about surround sound I just want a decent TV. Are these bad purchases or not?

P.S. - They both have HDMI inputs.

I have to respond the the
"crack the membrane and the plasma will escape"
comment
WHAT ???
A plasma display is a HEAVY CRT with no neck or deflection yoke
It is usually protected by 1/4 or thicker pane of shatterproof glass and that is usually anti glare
A small nipple exist usually in the upper rear corner where the
PICTURE TUBE is evacuated and the argon plasma is injected during manufacture ( only place for plasma to escape) barring hitting it with a sledge hammer
Now with that said
The Sony 46" LCD TV would be far better
for the usage you claim XBOX 360
To protect yourself purchase a good UPS
Uninteruptable Power Supply for the LCD
the Lamp runs at about 1400 degrees
sudden power loss will damage the LAMP
usually destroying it
Whats nice about a LCD TV is replacing the LAMP
restores BRAND NEW brightness to the picture

The cheapest one is the 10 inch tv. You better get the Lcd hdtv.

don't get anything unless it's hd and forget tvs that are fatter than 4 inches thick — if you jostle a plasma, you can crack the membrane, the plasma will escape and you will be left with an irrepairable hunk of junk……
