Toshiba 42HP84 plasma TV has a dead spot. One inch wide strip from middle of top of screen to center. Help?
We've had the tv about 2 years. The dead spot is one inch wide and about 10 inches long. It is about 15 inches in from the right side and drops vertically from the top of the screen to the middle. It happens on all inputs (hdmi, dvd, vcr). At first it was intermittent, but now it is permanent. Does anyone know what this is? The Toshiba help desk told me to turn it off and on to see if that fixed it (wow, what an original idea). A guy at Circuit City said I might need a new screen since the screens are one piece. Another guy said I might need a new circuit board in the tv. Both of these options sound expensive. I haven't yet had a repair person out to check it. If anyone knows a good tv guy in or near Huntington Beach, CA let me know. Thanks.
OK FIRST…..
It's NOT your Display panel so you won't be looking at a $1500 repair bill…..
It could be a LOOSE Ribbon connector that needs reseated and reclamped….That is about $200 to do that repair…..
But this is MORE LIKELY…..
I suspect your Driver board located at the top of the TV set may have a bad Driver….I see this part starting at $200 and may go up to $300 for the board……
Add $200 labor and maybe around $50 "In home trip charge"…..
So, expect a $450 to $550 repair cost to fix it……
